Natural Splendor

The West Coast is blessed with stark natural beauty that takes a hold of your soul and never seems to let go. Places such as Kraalbaai and Churchhaven, safely conserved in the West Coast National Park, are well worth visiting. Spend the day in the quaint fishing village of Paternoster, famed for its inexpensive crayfish and picturesque wooden fishing boats scattered along the shoreline. These are places that seem to have been forgotten by time and yet preserved by it too.

West Coast National Park

West Coast National Park is a haven for lovers of ecology and nature and is a Ramsar site with a myriad of flora and fauna. The Lagoon is refreshing and vital, an azure, blue surprise in the generally arid West Coast scenery of South Africa - and the bordering West Coast National Park will reveal its understated attractions to any visitor with more than just a dint of passing curiosity. When you come to Langebaan, South Africa, you'll quickly realize that there's more to the West Coast than meets the eye.

Bird Watching

Over 250 species of birds have been recorded on the Cape West Coast, classifying the Langebaan lagoon as a wetland of international importance. The Cape West Coast is situated at the southernmost point of the migratory route from Europe and Siberia and the wetland adjoining the Langebaan lagoon, a declared Ramsar site, supports huge populations of migratory birds.

Bird species include Black eagle, flamingo, the African black oyster-catcher, lark, tern, peregrine falcon and hundreds more. On a good day, one bird watcher recorded 42 different species of birds!

Bird watching tours can be booked at The Farmhouse Hotel or our guests are welcome to discover the nature reserve for themselves. After a thrilling day’s bird watching, relax in our lounge and enjoy a drink while you compare notes with your fellow birding enthusiasts and unwind.
